Mrs. V. A. Oka: A Distinguished Contributor to Agricultural Education and Environmental Research Mrs. V. A. Oka stands as a seasoned academic and agricultural expert with a career spanning decades in research, teaching, and community engagement. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Agriculture from Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), Akola, with specialization in Plant Pathology, where she graduated with first-class distinctions. She further pursued a B.Ed. and B.A. in English Literature from Amravati University, highlighting her interdisciplinary academic interests. Throughout her career, she has actively contributed to various national and international conferences, presenting groundbreaking research in fields such as plant pathology, biotechnology, organic farming, and environmental conservation. Her notable work includes a published study on the control of Rhizoctonia bataticola in the Indian Phytopathological Journal and a paper presented at the Indian Phytopathological Society’s national meeting. In 2010, she presented innovative research on bio-filtration as a method for purifying sewage water, underlining its significance for biodiversity conservation at a national conference in Amravati. She also presented on climate-resilient agricultural practices, such as moisture conservation techniques for sweet corn productivity, during the UGC-sponsored Geography Conference. Her paper, Women: The Leaders of Environmental Conservation, was well-received at the 12th Women Professors Conference. She has consistently addressed issues of sustainable agriculture, notably at a State Level Seminar on Organic Farming where she discussed topics ranging from organic food benefits to neem-based biopesticides and organic certification protocols. Her interdisciplinary insights were further shared during various international conferences, including the Interdisciplinary Conference on Women Empowerment in 2011 and a 2016 symposium focusing on the transformation of women through education. In 2017, she participated in the ICAR-sponsored national conference on agro-based entrepreneurship and presented a poster on mushroom cultivation as an eco-friendly farming practice. Beyond her research contributions, she has attended and facilitated numerous seminars and workshops. These include state and national-level forums on agricultural biotechnology, traditional medicine, DNA technologies, and sustainability. She played an organizational role in exhibitions and seminars hosted by Shri Shivaji College of Agricultural Biotechnology and participated in the National Convention on Rose Cultivation, the Mycological Society of India conference, and events emphasizing cultural and environmental awareness. She has also been instrumental in knowledge dissemination as a resource person. Her extensive involvement in training programs has made a significant impact, particularly in rural Maharashtra. From leading mushroom cultivation workshops under MAVIM and the Social Forestry Department to coordinating seed production training programs, she has empowered countless individuals—especially women—with sustainable livelihood skills. Her sessions, often hosted in collaboration with MCED, Mitcon, and local municipal bodies, addressed the economic potential of mushroom cultivation and its value-added products. As an expert associated with the Maharashtra Mushroom Research Center since 2001, she has consistently conducted private and public training programs and outreach campaigns. Her expertise has been showcased in forums such as the Shetkari Janjagruti Abhiyan and Mahila Melawas, where she emphasized the role of mushroom cultivation in women’s economic development. Through her multifaceted career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to agricultural innovation, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment. Her contributions have not only enriched academic literature but have also fostered practical knowledge for sustainable agriculture across Maharashtra. Recently she has honoured with Maharashtra Bhushan Award & Arni Kanya Bhushan Award by various Charitable Trusts in Maharashtra. She has honoured with PhD in Agriculture biotechnology by Washington digital University for her dedication &devotion for good ecofriendly & social cause.
