The award recipient Mr. D. Veerabhadra Rao, a
development practitioner, is a well-nurtured professional, a Master in sociology exercising the development mandates for well over two decades through a
well-orchestrated civil society institution by the
name SAMIDA – Sanga Mithra Development Association, placed at Visakhapatnam and operating in the
three north coastal districts of AP, located at
Pedashaikalipalem Village, Kokkirapalli Post, Yellamanchili Mandal, Anakapalli District, Andhra
Pradesh.
He is actively involved in highlighting the development issues to provide required direct and indirect
reinforcements of capacity building, community
mobilization, and institution development to the vulnerable communities in rural, urban and tribal
contexts. Using an amalgamation of academic and research backgrounds and contemporary inputs,
he plays an important role in developing action plans to overcome the challenges faced by people. His
current areas of interest include environment, water resource management, biodiversity, climate
change and preparedness during natural disasters.
He is an energetic and talented working development professional with innate abilities to build social
justice and equanimity through development research, Program Planning, strategy building, and
resource mobilization. Currently, SAMIDA, the development organization he works with, is carrying
out several action-oriented development programs through the methodical design of IEC materials.
He serves as a resource for several national programs in association with development discipline and
is actively involved in vision modelling for the upliftment of women and child segment across rural
and tribal segments.
SAMIDA has been a shining silver line in the underdeveloped, cloudy horizons of the Tribal and rural
sectors. In the last two decades, SAMIDA has succeeded in empowering the Tribal and Rural communities of women, children, youth and farmers to effectively address the development issues in the
economic, rights, livelihoods, social, environmental, empowerment and constitutional spheres. Major
achievements include initiating cooperative spirit and movement on a massive scale in the district
and forming the cooperative MACS banks, introducing organic farming and productive farming
practices through applying the IEC tools. As a skilled educator in personality development, he has
participated in top-notch training programs, such as the US Consulate General of Mumbai’s TechCamp, and many academic programs
