“Chandralekha Bazaz: Navigating Adversity with Resilience and Purpose”
Chandralekha Bazaz’s journey epitomizes the adage, “Focus on the journey, not the destination.” Beginning her professional odyssey at the tender age of 18, she embarked on a path of self-discovery and resilience that would shape her future endeavors. Armed with a degree from St. Bede’s College, Shimla, she commenced her career at Woodland House School in Kashmir, only to face the upheaval of terrorism in the region, prompting her to relocate to Delhi at the age of 20.
The transition to life in a metropolitan city was fraught with challenges, yet she navigated through adversity with unwavering determination. Despite the uncertainties of migration and the nomadic lifestyle it entailed, she persevered, determined to carve her own path. Embracing the role of motherhood, she pursued further education, obtaining her B.Ed and post-graduation degree while balancing the responsibilities of raising her daughter.
Her foray into teaching marked a significant turning point in her career. Joining Ganga International School, New Delhi, as a PRT, her dedication and passion for education propelled her swift rise to the position of TGT within a year. However, family obligations compelled her to part ways with the school in 2004, leading her to embark on a new chapter in Jalandhar, where she faced the daunting challenge of starting afresh in a new city with limited resources.
Despite the obstacles, her resilience and tenacity bore fruit as she secured a position at Apeejay School as a TGT English, reigniting her passion for teaching. Over the years, she honed her skills and expertise, drawing inspiration from the principals, students, and fellow educators she encountered along the way.
Driven by a desire to give back to society, she seized the opportunity to serve as a principal in a rural school in Punjab, fulfilling her long-standing dream of making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. In the face of unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, she rose to the occasion, spearheading initiatives to ensure continuity of education through online platforms.
Under her leadership, the school not only weathered the storm but emerged as a beacon of resilience and innovation in the region. Through her tireless efforts and those of her dedicated team, the school flourished, earning recognition as a Maple World School and attracting a burgeoning enrollment of 400 students.
As she reflects on her journey thus far, she remains steadfast in her commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. With gratitude for the support of those who have accompanied her on this journey, she looks ahead with optimism and determination, knowing that her path is illuminated by the light of purpose and perseverance.
