Prof. Dr. Shirley Stewart MA, MPhil, PhD, stands as a prominent figure in academia and community service, currently holding the esteemed position of Principal at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya ICSE School. With a distinguished background in education, she has previously served as Vice Principal and Research Guide at Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum. Over her extensive career spanning more than 28 years in the Department of English at Mar Ivanios College, he has made significant contributions as an Associate Professor and former Head of the Department of English.

Her academic pursuits have revolved around Comparative Literature, with a particular focus on feminist themes in Malayalam and Black American women writers. Her expertise as a research guide is widely recognized, having mentored numerous PhD candidates. She has authored numerous research articles published in both national and international journals and has completed a UGC Minor Project on the Evolution of Women Writers in Malayalam.

In addition to her academic endeavors, she has played pivotal roles in various educational initiatives. She has served as the Chairperson of the English Board of Studies and has been actively involved in evaluating graduate and post-graduate examinations as Chief and Additional Examiner. Furthermore, she has coordinated educational programs such as the Civil Services Course in collaboration with the Pala Civil Services Institute and the Higher Secondary School Teachers Transformation Programme by SCERT.

Her commitment to social welfare is evident through her involvement in various organizations and initiatives. She has served as a trustee of the social welfare organization ‘SWASTHI,’ where she worked with migrant laborers and terminally-ill patients. Additionally, she has been associated with organizations such as NSS, Blood Donors Forum, palliative care for cancer patients, Lions Club, and Y’s men Club.

As a Quiz Master, she has showcased her expertise by conducting quizzes at both inter-school and inter-collegiate levels. She has also served as a resource person for All-India Radio and TV programs. Her active participation in community work extends to being a keynote speaker at various forums addressing topics related to social issues, literary pursuits, personality development, and English language proficiency.
Her multifaceted contributions have earned her widespread respect in academia and community service alike, embodying the values of scholarship, leadership, and social responsibility. Her role as Staff Advisor to the College Union and Vice President of AMICOS has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant culture of the college.
